5 Flickr Groups For Typography Fanatics

Typography involves the utilization of type to form artistic, attractive, and useful statements with language. It is used everywhere from advertising to brand messaging to architecture and has been gaining popularity and usefulness as more and more different typefaces become available. It has gone from a very specialized field of master typographers to something almost everyone does at some point or another, often without realizing it. The Flickr groups below bring those with a passion for typography together. Found Typography While this group has hundreds of members and over ten thousand images, what makes them unique is that images submitted by members are picked to be a part of a webzine called Typezine. This adds an extra level of competitiveness along with the opportunity to have your work featured. All images used in the zine are fully credited back to the members flickr page or personal website, so it could also be a great way to promote yourself. Typophile Typophile’s member base dwarfs many of the others in this selection with over 6,000 members. It also boasts over 40,000 images that are sure to keep you busy and inspired for quite awhile. They have a very active forum community as well and make it easy to locate an obscure typeface or to get feedback on your own typography. This community has been around for awhile and doesn’t show signs of slowing down any time soon! Typography and Lettering While Typophile may have many members, the biggest group in our list is Typography and Lettering with almost 20,000 members and over 135,000 images. One of my favorite things about this group is that they have some really interesting and active discussions, including one about what fonts the members hate the most. Certainly there is a lot of disagreement, but also a lot of great discussion and interesting points of view. With such a great array of members from all different background and such an incredible selection of images to look through, this is one group where you can spend quite a bit of time and not come close to getting bored! Vintage Typography This group has nearly 3,000 members and nearly 10,000 images, but what makes them actually stand out is that this is a group for vintage typography. It celebrates that which has long since faded from being in fashion but still remains and important part of typography culture. It is an attractive and compelling walk down memory lane while celebrating some gorgeous typography. Your Typography What makes this group unique is that they only accept original typography rather than photos or other images of typography people just found and liked. That means that you have an opportunity to interact with the creators, give feedback, praise, and constructive criticism for the images. It also will allow you the chance to post your own and get the same kind of response from others who are also involved in the typography field. These are just some of the best groups among many great Flickr typography groups that celebrate the art and function of wonderful typography. What groups have you joined? What do you like about them? Share those and any great typography images below in the comments.   By Annie Wallace Annie Wallace is the typography amateur and creative blogger for Cartridge Ink, the eco-friendly printer supplies...

20 Beautiful Twitter Bootstraps Templates

Bootstrap is a very important open source User Interface front end designed for Twitter. The twitter bootstraps has simply set off in the web development community since it was launched in the early 2011. Bootstrap was developed by Mark Otto and Jacob Thornton at Twitter as a framework to boost their consistency across the internal tool. Powerful features, responsive UI design and user-friendly interface made it largely popular in the twitter community. Interestingly a limber pre-processor is offering more than the traditional CSS. It consists of HTML and CSS-based design templates for typography, as well as forms, buttons, charts, navigation and other interface components and more that you can iterate with adorable JavaScript extensions. We can certainly declare that it has become more convenient for the web developers to create web applications including necessary features within its modules. Moreover twitter bootstrap have already proven its functional accessibility by establishing itself compatible on the cross browsers too. It is also consists of hefty amount of useful templates like jQuery Plugins, HTML components, 12 column grid system, LESS file, complete style guide documentation etc. However, there will be always haters, skeptics for any new development but twitter bootstrap has smashed all previous success and also acted as the primary inspiration for the next projects for the entire web development community. 10 Examples Of Unusual Navigation

10 Examples Of Unusual Navigation

I still remember the first time I came across a truly unique way of navigating a website. It was about ten years ago, and the page was for a small firm that dealt with web and graphic design. I had been hoping to hire them for my new blog, and it was the navigation page that sealed the deal for me. Rather than actual buttons, there were a series of stars on the backdrop of a sky. Nothing else was on the page, but the largest stars (that were in actual star shape and in metallic black and blue) were actual buttons to take you to the chosen page. None of them had writing, but when you hovered over it the star would rapidly spin and the sky background would dissolve enough that you could see a large text banner beneath. This banner stated the page the star linked to. This really impressed me. I had never seen anything so creatively done in a web design before, and since the name of the firm matched up with the design motif, it was even more incredible to me. That design has long since influenced me in how I look at layouts to this day. While that particular site is no longer up, here are ten other examples of unusual navigation on websites. 1. Stephen Vernon Clarke This portfolio for Stephen Vernon Clarke, a photographer and film maker, has an awesome overall design. The main page is just a single photo of himself. When you click on an arrow at the side it begins to scroll through a slideshow that features some of his photography work. In the top right hand corner is a small circle icons. When you hover over them they say things like Blog, Films, About, ect. 2. Small Stone Recordings US based record label Small Stone Recordings stuck with a theme that represented what they did for their navigation section. It shows an old fashioned car stereo. Different knobs go to different pages, such as information on their bands, tours press and contact information. 3. Yuna Kim I love this site. It uses simple geometric shapes in flat colors to make up both the design and the navigation. Hovering over each one takes you to a portfolio page, which is related to the column it has been placed in. Then there are a small shape headers at the top, which drop down text menus. 4. Racket Racket changes their layout all the time, so there is a chance you might see a different page by the time you read this than I am now. However, every time they change their layout it has a cool navigation format, even if it never stays consistent. Right now, everything is set on a single page that you scroll down. So there are no linked places for you to go to. As you move down the page you will find a contact form for quotes and questions, below that a slideshow that you control with side arrows to see former work, and below that is a collection of people they have worked for, and their social media profiles. 5. 75B This website is broken down into four sections that each take up a strip going down the page. These are for commissions, works, shop and about 75B. The final has a page for each of the staff members, showing a photo of them standing. Everything else is a glorified portfolio, but really well done. The whole website scrolls, so you only need the one page. Until you click on an icon...
