One of my popular themes, Photo Frame allows you to customize the photos in the middle frame. This time, I made a similar theme where you are not placing your photo in the standard frame. Instead, your photos/portraits are positioned inside an open torn paper with some depth.

I used grey as the main color to make the photo stand out in this theme. Hope you like the Rustic Portrait theme πŸ™‚

  1. Wow, the special feature is super amazing, congratulations for the absolutely unique theme!

  2. Will you have this theme available for blogger?

    • I am afraid you’ll have to ask Alvaris from Falconhive.com/Bloggerstyles.com and see if he wants to convert this theme to Blogger.

  3. Your themes are fabulous! I’m having trouble deciding which is my favorite! I love that this one you can change the photo and the ‘ripped’ effect. Great job!!

  4. I could use some help with the picture. I love your themes! The graphics are sharper than most I have seen. I cannot figure out where to edit the picture and where I should have the picture stored.

    • The rotating images are stored in /custom/ folder. Please read the instruction above under “Image Customization” for more details.

  5. upload which file? so many files there after i extracted it. sorry i’m noob here. thx for yr help πŸ™‚

    • Could you be more specific as to what your problem is?

  6. This is awesome! Thanks so much for the detailed walk through! The first time I saw this template I was scared to touch it because it looked so hard…yet I downloaded it anyway! Once I took the time to read it I realized how simple you had made it.

The template looks great! Thanks for making such amazing ones!

    • I went to your site and seems like you are using the Green Light theme. Anyway, glad to see you had no problem with the setup.

Btw, your comment is useful for other theme users and I’ve added it to the Testimonial page πŸ™‚

      • Brian, I could see the rustic theme template but when I went to another computer in the house(which doesn’t have the graphics/RAM as mine) I couldn’t see it. And since I don’t know what kind of computers my readers are using I just switched back to this one! I love the Green Light theme as well!

If you send me an email or something I can show you what I did with the rustic theme! I’m very proud of it! Haha!!

Oh wow! I was just telling it like it was!:) You have a ton of great themes! This one, that was ported to blogger, is one that a friend of mine is using! Back 2 Basics.

        You’re very talented!

        • Nice to see that your friend is using a Blogger version of the Watercolor theme πŸ™‚

You can send me your modified version of the Rustic theme to

  7. Hi. I’m hoping you may be able to help me with a couple of questions. I don’t understand this “Tag Cloud” and I think I want to remove it along with “Meta”. I looked in the Widgets page and it’s not there. I then checked the editor to see if it was embedded in the css, but couldn’t spot it. How can I remove these?
Also, I have this blog as a part of my normal web site. I would like to have a link back to my home page and one for my playlist. I tried putting it in the header as html, but that didn’t seem to do anything.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
    Scott πŸ™‚

    • Actually I found that if I put anything in the “Sidebar 2” it would remove the Cloud and Meta. I’m still not sure why.
Up at the top however it lists my Meta Tags. I would rather not have those showing under my title. How do I access that?
      Scott πŸ™‚

      • Hi Scott,

I remove Tag Cloud from widgets wrongly, I will correct the mistake in the next version.

In the meanwhile, you can modify function.php and remove the line below. Once done, you will see the Tag Cloud is back to Widgets page:
        unregister_sidebar_widget(‘tag_cloud’);

        • Thanks for your help Brian. I wanted it gone anyway and it went so I’m happy with that.
But the Meta tags up at the top below Blog Site Title are the words I’d like to eliminate. Could you tell me where those are to eliminate them?
Your page you created is really cool. Thanks for the effort.
          Scott πŸ™‚

        • Do you mean the sub title? If so, you can remove/modify it in the admin. Go to Setting->General->Tagline

        • Thanks Brian. I didn’t realize your post was at the bottom of the comments page. Yes, I guess that is exactly what I mean is the Sub Title. I’ve just never had it show up before. I assumed the tag lines are what I want to use for searches from the internet. Is that not the case? I know I can edit those words, but I’ve never had them show up before under my title. Maybe I didn’t understand that the tag lines aren’t for that purpose, but rather just an explaination of what the blog is about. I appreciate you answering me.
          Scott πŸ™‚

        • The tag line explains what the blog is. I believe it does not affect the search engine results.

        • Yeah. It is used to describe your blog in a brief way and has nothing(or can be ignored) to do with SEO.

        • I was talking about when you open this theme it opens the site all the way to the left side of your monitor instead of opening in the center.

          Thanks, Bitlockers

        • @Bitlockers, this theme is purposely aligned to the left of the browser because it looks better that way imo.

  8. Hello Brian,

I think your theme is very nice. For me it would be perfect if it was able to do a slideshow of the pictures and not only show a new picture when the page is refreshed.

Do you think you can add this to the theme or send me some code so I can put it in myself?

    Many thanks in advance.

    • I don’t have plan to do it now. I will consider doing it when I am free.

  9. Hi Brian,

great theme! Thanks for your work, your time, and your creativity!

I have a question re widgets:
How can I remove or change the blogroll, and some of the meta tags like wordpress? Same with recent posts. Doesn’t show up in the widget list.

    Greetings
    Thorsten

    • Hi Thorsten,

      1. You can edit sidebar.php directly if you don’t use widgets.
      2. You can try to add some widgets into Sidebar1 and Sidebar2. Remeber to change to Sidebar2 and click “show” to display the widget list.

I am not very clear about your question. If this is not what you want to know, please comment again.

  10. Love, Love, love your designs. I’m using one now (Simple Style) that I’ve used for awhile, but want to switch to this design. I did the switch last night but then when my readers try to click comment it gives them a 404. It only happens to this design. I’m back to Simple Style for now. Can you help?

    • Hi, can you switch to Rustic Portrait for 1 day so I can go to your blog and trouble shoot the problem?

P.S. Please also let me know which “comment link” you click that your “leave a comment”?

      • Brian, I went to turn on that theme for you to look at and the comment link is working fine now. Thanks anyway!

  11. Does this theme work with WordPress 2.6.5?

    • No. This theme only works on WordPress 2.7+

  13. You have created some very nice themes. I especially like the Rustic Portrait theme. I was wondering if there is any way to change it so that more than three pages appear in the top menu? I have looked at the code but since I’m not very good with it, I can’t seem to figure it out. Thanks!

    • @Jeremiah, first of all, you are using the older version of the theme. please upgrade to the latest version.

As for the top menu, you can add up to 5 links to the header without exceeding the header boundary.

      • Thanks. Actually, I am using version 1.01 and I still only get three links in the header. I figured out how to block them though and have put the pages in the sidebar. My page title is a bit long and was covered by the link icons. Great theme!

  14. Great theme. I really dig it. One issue I notice is that the main body (including header and footer) appear to be “left justified”. Does anyone have a solution to get the content centered on page?

    Using: WP 2.8.4 and rustic-portrait 1.01
Issue in: FF 3.0.x and IE 8.0.x

    Thanks, Jon D.

    • @Jon D., the design is made left justified to match the graphic perfectly. Making it center justified will distort design.

      • Got it. Thanks for the reply. Keep up the good work.

  15. What a great theme and service that Brian has made available to us. There’s no way that I could create or afford to have someone create this for me.

I’ve been using this theme since I first started my blog and I think I messed up my links. I have changed the way the permalinks are created a couple of times now and I think that’s why my categories show nothing except 404 errors etc.

I haven’t set up any tags. Does that create issues?

    Thanks for any replies.
    CG

    • @Carlos Galvan, I can see your sidebar links are shown correctly and they are all active links. Can you elaborate your problem?

      Categories

  16. Love all your themes but this one want center in any browser I have, IE8, Firefox or Chrome, you make the best temes on the net heads down. Keep up the great work.

    Bitlockers

  17. Greetings.

I really like the theme. Great idea, love the picture frame. However, the theme is not working properly in IE7/IE8. Instead of the image in the picture frame appearing inside the frame, it appears on top of the frame.

    Ceffyl

    • @Ceffyl, I view the theme demo in both IE7 and IE8 and the picture is showing inside the torn paper frame. Can you elaborate the issue?

  18. This theme may be perfect for a project of mine. The graphics are certainly nicely done. Congratulations on all of the hard work that I know went into the development.

I just downloaded the free version of your theme so I could “have a look under the covers” at the code and scripts. The first thing that I noticed is that it is not centered on the page in IE8, FF or Chrome. Is this by design?

I know how to remedy this via CSS but wanted to ask if the paid version of this theme has this fixed prior to laying out the cash.

    • @Marj, the theme is left justified by design as I think it looks best that way πŸ™‚

  19. Hi, I’ve been looking for something similar to this forever! I LOVE it!!

What I would like to do is have a slideshow play “under” a graphic image of a TV, so it looks like the images are displaying on the TV screen.

it appears that your torn paper graphic functions in the same way…as a “frame” under which the images display..

my question: do you have this feature as a WordPress plug-in that could be used with a short code in a posting/page, or as a widget??

or is there a way to use the a style sheet/code that would create that frame for my WordPress gallery images?

THANK YOU very much. Great work!!

    • @elaine, I am sorry that this feature is not available in plugin.

  20. Hi, Brian. I love rustic portraits. Thank you. I am having difficulty with the picture, however. I resized it to your dimensions 320 W X 280 H but it doesn’t display properly. I’d appreciate it if you would take a look at my website: http://janalynvoigt.com.
