Special Font for Header Title

Posted by on Sep 5, 2008 in About My Themes | 23 comments

I have created yet another special effect for my WordPress themes! If you are tired of having the standard font style (like Arial, Verdana, Tahoma etc) for your header title, you can use my theme with special font. Take a look at my Photo Frame theme. The header title is not the standard font. Screenshot of the Photo Frame header Can I change the blog title in the WordPress admin? Definitely! In the WordPress admin, follow this process: Setting -> General. Then key in your blog title in the “Blog Title” field. What is the name of this font? Gabriel Weiss’ Friends Font. Can this font support non-english character? No. This font only supports english characters and some symbols. For the full list of characters and symbols this font can show, go to Gabriel Weiss’ Friends font detail page. Is this font copyrighted? No. I use fonts from Dafont.com. The fonts presented on Dafont.com are their authors’ property, and are either freeware, shareware, demo versions or public domain. Is it possible to change the font? Yes! To change the font, follow this instruction for changing font type: 1) Name the font of your choice to gabrwffr.ttf 2) Open /images/ folder 3) Replace gabrwffr.ttf with the font of your choice. To change the font style, open and edit this file: title-img.php Find imagettftext($im, ?size, ?degree, ?x-pos, ?y-pos, $white, $font, $text); Then replace the following value with numbers: ?size = font size ?degree = tilt degree ?x-pos = x position from the left ?y-pos = y position from the top The default value for the Photo Frame theme is: imagettftext($im, 22, 2, 20, 70, $white, $font, $text) What is the server requirement? To make this work, your web server should have GD Library supported. GD is an open source code library for the dynamic creation of images by programmers. To check if your server supports this feature, follow this simple instruction: Download this GD testing file Unzip the file and upload it to your server Open the file in any browser If your server supports GD, all the items should display “Yes” The server report for Templatelite can be seen here. What if my web server doesn’t support GD Library? The effect will not show up. Instead, the header title will show this default font: Arial, 32px Themes that are currently using this effect: – Photo...

Gradient Font Effect

Posted by on Aug 20, 2008 in About My Themes | 0 comments

I constantly look out for ways to improve my themes. One thing about how special my themes is that I have incorporated a special font in the header title on some of my themes. Take a look at the demo of our Mouse IT theme, for example. Look at the header title. It doesn’t show one color code but it is the gradient blue. How do we achieve this effect? I use a CSS trick to create gradient text effect with a PNG image, no Javascript or Flash. Can I change the blog title in the WordPress admin? Definitely! In the WordPress admin, follow this process: Setting -> General. Then key in your blog title in the “Blog Title” field. Is the title SEO friendly? Yes. The title passed the W3C Validation so search engines can index it easily. Is it compatible with major browsers? Yes. This effect has been tested on IE6, IE7, Firefox, Opera and Safari. A screenshot below shows the header of the Mouse IT theme. Yes. You hardly see this in other free themes! Hope you enjoy this effect 😛 Themes that are currently using this effect: – Mouse...

All Major Browsers Supported

Posted by on Aug 20, 2008 in About My Themes | 0 comments

Does your free theme downloaded elsewhere look nice on IE browser but look bad on Firefox? If your theme doesn’t look good on all major browsers, you are losing visitors. I know how important it is to have a theme with major browsers supported. Before I release every theme, I’ll test it rigorously on 6 most commonly-used browsers, namely IE7, IE8, Firefox, Safari, Opera and Chrome!! As an example, I found a free theme and viewed it on Firefox. When I switch to IE, some images are missing. I then study why the images showed up on Firefox but disappeared on IE. On a closer look, I found out that the file extension of the images were .png (Portable Network Graphics). As of this writing, IE browser can’t display .png images. I know what works and what doesn’t for these browsers so for every theme that I release on this site, I make sure that they all look good on the 6...

Gravatar Supported

Gravatar, an abbreviation for globally recognized avatar is a concept for globally-unique avatars. On Gravatar.com, users can register an account based on their email address, and upload an avatar to be associated with the account. This is how it works: When the user posts a comment on such a blog that requires an e-mail address, the blogging software checks whether that email address has an associated avatar at Gravatar. If so, the Gravatar is shown along with the comment. The good thing is, all our themes support Gravatar 😛
